A Single Leaf - poem

4/11/2013

I am a single leaf
blowing in the wind
detached from the anchor
which was once my whole

I am on my own
with no one
no where to rest
trying to dance on my way to the
next destination

But twisting and turning
being thrown and thrashed around
not knowing
where I’m going and all the time
forgetting where i’ve come from

Trying to remember
my roots, the attachment
I once had
but knowing it can never
be that way again

I used to sway in the wind
confident in the strength of my
branch, my bough
I flit and flutter now
seeking a place of rest, a landing
safe, secure, sound
